Mike Sweas decided he was going to join the Marine Corps about an hour before he walked into the military recruitment office.

At 23 years old, he had accepted college wasn’t his thing. He had changed his major “four or five times” while at the University of Illinois, and after being in the workforce he was underwhelmed by his career options. Sweas didn’t know what he wanted to do, but he did know what he didn’t want to do.
