Local volunteers were shoulder-deep in underbrush last month as they worked to cut down invasive plant species at the Hickory Creek Forest Preserve.

Volunteers focused their joint effort on the north adjacent area to the playground.

For the past five years, volunteers have been going through and clearing out non-native and invasive plants. They work to get it back to a more natural state of what it once was and to promote the survival of the native species.
