As the “Home of the Proud Americans,” New Lenox residents gathered at the Armed Forces Memorial in the Commons Sunday, Nov. 11, to reflect on a Veterans Day with historical significance.

The ceremony marked the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended fighting in World War I between the Allies and Germany.

American, Illinois, village, POW-MIA and Wounded Warrior flags snapped violently back and forth in the brisk, 36-degree wind, but residents did not let the cold keep them from saluting those who served.
