Alex Gasbarro wasn’t going to let the pain stop him. The mission was simple: make it around the bases, no matter what.

Gasbarro, a New Lenox resident, fought through a hip injury to score the game-winning run for St. Laurence in the Class 3A Crestwood Supersectional on June 3, sending the Vikings to state.

In the bottom of the seventh, with St. Laurence and De La Salle tied 2-2, Gasbarro delivered a one-out single, his second hit of the day.
