Marist sophomore Easton Lotus said her right ankle was at about 50 percent after she sprained it in regional play. Her status for the Class 4A Marist Sectional championship game against Riverside-Brookfield was in doubt until just before the game Friday, May 31.

Lotus, a New Lenox resident, didn’t just play. She played the hero in Marist’s 1-0 win, delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

“I was just trying not to do too much,” Lotus said. “I wanted to hit it on the ground and get them in.”
