There was a point in the regular season where Lincoln-Way West felt almost cursed when it came to penalty-kick shootouts.

The Warriors lost their first three shootouts of the year but broke through in their regular-season finale against crosstown rival Lincoln-Way Central.

West’s girls said that win was a huge confidence boost, and it paid off in the Class 3A Bloom Regional final against Mother McAuley on Friday, May 17.

The Warriors outlasted the Mighty Macs 4-3 in a seven-round marathon shootout to earn a 2-1 win.
